Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy

Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) is used to assist couples and families in re-creating safe, loving emotional bonds, and respectful, attentive ways of listening, communicating and understanding each other. EFCT is based in the same principles as individual EFT, but the therapeutic process interventions are developed to suit couple and family dynamics. An EFCT therapist respectfully helps partners to understand each other's emotional experience and break the negative, hurtful cycles of interaction, while gradually establishing a new way of relating that is safe, bonding and deeply fulfilling.

Emotionally-focused therapy for couples is one of only two approaches to couples therapy that are supported by research and endorsed by the American Psychological Association. Ongoing research is confirming superior outcomes for EFCT in reducing couple/ family distress, and creating more secure, trusting relationships.
